Aggregates for road constructionProviding aggregates for road construction is an important part in our operations. Our technical expertise and experience in the aggregates business ensure our clients with high-quality products and innovative solutions to their needs. Aggregates for road construction include: ▪ Concrete Aggregates: Dufferin Aggregates produces clean, uncoated, strong and durable material for the concrete industry. Concrete aggregates, when incorporated into concrete, should satisfactorily resist to cracking, swelling, or leaching. They should be exempt from contaminating substances which might contribute to the deterioration and loss in strength of the finished concrete. ▪ Asphalt Aggregates: Aggregates in the asphalt provide the strength, while the oil-based bitumen acts as the binding agent. The type of aggregates used, their size, moisture content and percentage in the mixture are critical elements to a quality end product. Dufferin Aggregates produces asphalt aggregates with the consistent particle size and shape that ensure a smooth and even surface. Specialized Aggregates Over the years Dufferin Aggregates has developed a number of specialized products, some of which are the result of specific requirements of our customers for various applications. Our specialized aggregates include: ▪ Armor Stone: Commonly used along water ways to reduce erosion and for decorative landscape applications. ▪ Screenings for driveways and base for interlocking stone (where drainage is not an issue): Fine Screenings: Ideally graded limestone aggregate, excellent for the brick manufacturer, under paving stones Block Plant Screenings: 100% crushed for optimum strength and ideally coloured for use to the block manufacturer ▪ High Performance Bedding™ (HPB™): The Ontario Building Code has granted exclusive authorization to Dufferin Aggregates High Performance Bedding™ for use under concrete floors, and on the top and sides of drain pipes and tiles. ▪ High Performance:This limestone alternative to Granular B Type 1 offers optimum stability and improved drainage as a granular base or sub-base for roads and structures. ▪ Manufactured Sand: Manufactured from 100% limestone, commonly used in higher strength concrete applications. ▪ Stability Sand (HSS): A highly accepted fine aggregate, that meets Super-pave and standard asphalt applications. ▪ DFC & HL1: Meta-arkose aggregate approved for high friction, surface asphalt applications. ____________________ Specifications Specifications for Dufferin Aggregates’ products may vary according to the application. In Ontario, the use of aggregates in road construction is governed by Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS), developed jointly by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, and the Municipal Engineers Association. These specifications may be supplemented by specified test procedures and specifications developed by boards, associations, and societies for non-MTO projects. Testing Gradations and physicals properties of our products are done on a regular basis to OPSS specifications and follow the rules of Dufferin Aggregates Quality Control Manual. Our labs are certified by the Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories and are part of the Aggregates and Soil Proficiency program with the Ministry of Transportation.
